S...L...A...C...K...E...R

I can't believe it has been so long since my last post.  I guess life has been just a tad bit crazy.  So here is my rambling sentence about the life of the Coleman's in the last month...District PTO meeting, Teacher Appreciation Meal to the school, Primary child's baptism, dinner to a friend with a new baby, monthly lunch with a friend, volunteering at the school twice a week, Primary Presidency Meeting weekly, a day at the temple, School PTO meeting, Quarterly Teacher Training, glucose test and ob appointment, Grant's music concert, boys had sleepovers and birthday parties, Valentine's Day, Little league tryouts, early outs, weekly playgroups, helper at scouts, book club discussion and lunch, baby shower for a friend, boys to the play "Box Car Children", dates with my man, Des Moines Choral Society Concert, changes in ward boundaries thus new callings, class rearrangements, etc..  This does not include that pelethera of errands and household obligations that take up my time.

If you are overwhelmed with just reading this, let me now highlight the only thing that has helped me survive the last month....

And in case you missed my poem last year, here is my ode to Girl Scouts Cookies...and yes, all but the Lemon Cremes and 1/2 box of Thin Mints are gone...and yes, I got them a week and 1/2 ago.  Let's just say that I am loving having pregnancy as an excuse to ignore the calories and fat!

It's the most wonderful time of the year

It's the most wonderful time of the year
The Girl Scouts are at the door
Telling you cookies are here
It's the most wonderful time of the year

There are Thin Mints for crunching
And Tagalongs for munching
Samoas, Thanks A Lots and more
It's the most wonderful time of the year

The 10 boxes I ordered
are sure to be hoarded
The diet will be broken I'm sure
But It's the most wonderful time of the year

I patiently wait for this time of year
So I think it'll be be okay
I just won't look in the mirror
It's the most wonderful time of the year

Samoas and Thanks A Lots I'm sure I can spare
Thin Mints and Tagalongs I will not share
But it's the most wonderful time
The most wonderful time
It's the most wonderful time of the year.
Yea, this year it was twelve and I am seriously considering a trip to the Girl Scout office for more.

Grant has his music concert and despite his overwhelming expressions of joy at being there, he did a great job.

This time last year there was no snow on the ground and my kids were outside riding bikes. I started planning for my garden, which, in all reality there are a few things that should be planted in the next 16 days.  However, the 6 foot drift covering my garden I am quite sure will not have disappeared.  I started my seedlings because I want to be optimistic and if that doesn't work I will enforce child labor and make my boys go shovel the snow off and make a pile elsewhere.  One thing I did do this year was order my seeds from a local heirloom seed harvester called Seed Savers.  I am really trying to be more conscious of what I am growing, how I am growing it, what I am eating, how I am buying it.  I joined the Iowa Co-op so I could have access to better foods and those that are in season.  It has been an adjustment, but it is so much better.  I am loving my milk in glass jugs and eggs that actually look and taste like my mother in laws!  Iowa is amazing in that there are so many people who are making the same efforts and are able to produce quality food.  Sure the cost SEEMS more, but read a few of the books off my list and watch FOOD Inc. and your view will be changed.  Of course, the Girl Scout Cookies are an exception...I said I was trying!

Baby is good, I am getting huge, glucose was normal (I wasn't worried, again the being in shape and eating healthy thing really does matter!!!), still running but it is getting harder with this big belly.

Kyle and I are off to Omaha this weekend for a little get away and a nice morning at the temple.  Of course we are visiting our favorite restaurant and hotel.  I am sure a visit to Whole Foods will be necessary as well.

Upcoming:  Grant turns 9!  Spring Break!

Check out my food blog for some new recipes and the perfect baby shower hors d'oeuvres.

Have a great week...hopefully it is a lot warmer where you are then where we are!
