Wind Wind Go Away

Let me just start this post by saying "This isn't Wyoming, so why is there so much dang wind".

This week we finished the garden. Kyle and I were both worn out, but hopefully we will have more than our share of strawberries, green onions, shallots, garlic, yellow onion, carrots, spinach, mixed greens, asparagus, sugar snap peas, jalapenos, bell peppers, beets, green beans, roma tomatoes, steak tomatoes, grape tomatoes, baby red potatoes, cucumbers, yellow squash, zucchini, and butternut squash. This year it obviously won't pay for itself (who knew dirt was so expensive...it's dirt for crying out loud) but hopefully in years to come it will. I ran out of room in the garden, so herbs went into planters.

Mother's Day Kyle cooked breakfast for me and got me a corsage to wear to church. He has done this every year since we had our first child.

Oh, and of course, the above pictures show exactly what I wanted for the special day. I think he took three days off to get it done for me. We had some good friends over for dinner and enjoyed the following menu.

Taylor's class had a field trip to the Iowa Hall of Pride. If you haven't had the opportunity to go through it, I would recommend it. All of the displays are interactive and the kids learn a lot about Iowa accomplishments in such avenues as sports, music, and media.

Now back to the wind..."It is a truth universally known that if you live in Wyoming the wind always blows". Wyoming, not Iowa. When we moved here we often were asked how we liked the "wind". At first, we thought people were joking, but we eventually learned that people here thought the little breezes were quite cumbersome. We enjoyed a good laugh at their idea of wind. I have to wonder what they think of the wind now. It has been pretty windy the last few days (of course, really windy that day I planted...who says horizontal tomato plants can't grow???) and today it has interfered with my daily afternoon "hammock therapy". So what do I do in its place???

That's right. Good 'ol Krisp Kreme cookies, except that Keebler doesn't make these anymore (or at least you can't buy them in Iowa) so Fareway carries a brand that is pretty darn good. Yummy....I almost forgot about the wind.

The next few days are supposed to bring heavy rains so maybe I will get to finish a few painting projects in the house and clean...or maybe I'll just polish off the three packages of cookies while watching Food Network.

Oh...Dam to Dam is coming up! I had a 9 mile run this past Saturday, it was great. We didn't stop and pushed wind quite a bit, so we should be prepared for that hill on mile 7. 11 miles this Saturday, 5 the following and then the race (12.4) on the 30th. My friend Colleen and I are looking forward to it. I still am looking for a marathon to run in late October, early November if anyone has suggestions. I haven't applied for the NYC one yet (deadline is June 1st) because I wanted to have a back up plan in case I didn't get chosen in the lottery. Shout out if you know of one!

  1. I feel your pain--the wind is howling today, and it's quite chilly! Where is my spring? :)

  2. I thought I was the only one on the planet who loved those wafer cookies. SOOO fattening, for such a smalll snack, but SOOO good. You weren't kidding when you said you planted a garden!! Butternut squash is my favorite. And yes it will pay off for many years to come. I am with you on the wind. It can be such a nice day here in IA, and then there is that blasted wind to ruin everything.

PS: Steve said you invited us over for dinner Sun??? Is that right? If so I am WAY excited for some cooking from Ginnie's kitchen. And to see your new house.
